PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) Q&A

What is PRP?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a form of regenerative medicine, which is an emerging area of medical care investigating ways to repair or replace damaged cells, tissues, or organs.

PRP is a blood product created from your blood with a high concentration of platelets and growth factors.

Dr. Cardona creates the PRP he uses for treatment by first obtaining a sample of blood from you. He then places the blood sample in a special centrifuge that separates the red blood cells and white blood cells from the plasma, leaving the platelets and growth factors.

Dr. Cardona uses the separated platelets and growth factors for your PRP treatments.

How does PRP work?

Platelets are best known for clotting blood to stop wounds from bleeding. But platelets also contain growth factors that activate your body’s healing process, triggering the regeneration of cells and tissue to repair the injured or damaged tissue.

With the high concentration of platelets and growth factors, PRP delivers your body the properties it needs to activate and accelerate healing, regenerate tissues and cells, and, potentially, restore lost function.

What can PRP treat?

At Fit Life MD, Dr. Cardona uses PRP for both aesthetic and medical purposes. PRP treatments include:

PRP for skin rejuvenation

For skin rejuvenation, Dr. Cardona drives the healing properties from PRP into your skin using a microneedling tool to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. These are two structural proteins responsible for your skin’s youthful strength and resilience.

PRP for skin rejuvenation restores your skin’s natural glow, improves skin tone, and smooths out lines and wrinkles. It also helps minimize the appearance of facial scars and acne scars.

PRP for hair loss

PRP benefits those struggling with hair loss. Dr. Cardona injects the PRP into the areas of the scalp where you have thinning hair. The healing properties reactivate the dormant hair follicles and extend the growth cycle of your hair.

PRP for hair loss improves hair thickness and growth.

PRP for erectile dysfunction (ED)

For men struggling with ED, Dr. Cardona may suggest PRP injections to improve penile health, sensitivity, and sexual satisfaction.

Dr. Cardona injects the PRP into the head and shaft of the penis, and the healing properties activate the growth of new blood vessels and nerve endings to improve erections and sensation.

PRP serves as a powerful rejuvenating tool that benefits many beauty and health concerns. Find out more about PRP by calling Fit Life MD or booking an appointment online today.
